And there is the rose, it is perfect in every moment of its existence. Ralph Waldo Emerson
No, I didn’t get these roses for Valentine’s Day. But that’s ok with me, because these are the beauties my DH sent me for my birthday just a couple of weeks ago. They were so perfect they didn’t even look real! Besides, I figured I didn’t need more roses, when I could just wear roses!
And going out for a yummy gourmet dinner suited me just fine, since I love to eat good food and drink champagne, finished off with something that involves chocolate, of course! Plus I got to dress up! That’s a pretty perfect Valentine’s celebration in my book.
This Jerry Gilden 1950s vintage red and pink rose printed dress called out to me from the depths of my overstuffed closet. How could I refuse? Out of all my dresses, I knew this was the right one for the occasion.
I love Jerry Gilden dresses. It is a lesser known label as far as collecting vintage goes, but his dresses are very nice quality and of feminine style. Most are in the fitted and flared silhouette, often in very pretty cotton floral prints or eyelets. He had a very talented designer for his clothing line. You can read more about Jerry and Sayde here.
It’s still a little cool down here in Florida, and this dress only has spaghetti straps. So I opted for this black and silver metallic crocheted 50s shrug to wear over it. The left side of my brain chose this for the warmth factor, the right side screamed “It has sparkles! And that rose pin with the dotted tulle needs to be on it too because the outfit isn’t quite Valentine-ish enough!” Ok, so the right brain had its way once again. Frankly, it happens more often than not.
With vintage clothing I am often attracted to the little details. Like this adorable matching belt that accompanies this dress.
It has little grommets on each end with black satin cords looped through them. I like this idea for a belt so much that I vow to figure out how to make these myself. I can envision whipping these up in all sorts of different fabrics, prints and cords and even decorating them with beads and other sparkly bits. (There goes that RB again!)
And check out this black suede vintage Koret purse. Notice how the suede handles loop through the holes on each side? Ha ha! Once I saw the connection with the belt, I knew this was THE bag to go with this outfit.
Also had to wear my 60s black suede pumps with the cute little flowers stamped at the toes.
And my vintage Lisner red thermoset bracelet because the links reminded me of hearts. I’m wearing matching earrings as well. Set does come with a necklace too, but at this point I did start to argue with my RB that we could be moving into overkill territory.
My perfect ending to a perfect Valentine’s Day. We moved to the bar for after dinner drinks and dessert. I ordered this decadent concoction of white chocolate mousse, gelato, dark chocolate sauce, pistachio liqueur, whipped cream and a pirouline. See the extra spoons they put beside it so I could share? Well I didn’t……. Ok, I let my husband have one bite!
So how about you? Did you dress up for Valentine’s Day?
xoxo
